My latest novel, Timberlands, is now available at Amazon. Here’s a sneak preview:
In 1932, the Kowalsky family with their eight children live in poverty in a rented farmhouse on the edge of Wisconsin’s Menominee Indian reservation. Oskar, the father, has moved the family many times in search of work. Lately, his increased drinking and gambling further impoverish the family. Right after Oskar loses the lease to the farmhouse in a drunken poker game with his landlord and employer, he disappears. The landlord is found dead two days later, and Oskar is the prime suspect.

Madam Pantaloons: Gold Rush Pioneer, a hardcover nonfiction book for upper elementary through middle school students (and anyone else who is interested in Gold Rush history!) Now available at Amazon. (Schools, bookstores, and libraries can order the book through the Ingram catalog.)
Jeanne Marie Suize emigrated to California from France in 1849 with the intention of mining gold. She was a very successful miner who insisted on wearing men’s trousers in her everyday work. She proved her worth in the mines and also as a vintner, producing more wine on her ranch than anyone else in Amador County. Despite her success in business, however, she was arrested three times for (illegally) wearing trousers. She died at the age of 68, having lived her life the way she wanted to live it, free and unencumbered by the expectations of her gender.
